Civil engineers design, construct and maintain the physical and naturally built environment, including public works such as roads, bridges, dams, airports, sewage systems, pipelines, structural components of buildings and railways. Because civil engineering is a wide-ranging profession, its history is linked to knowledge of construction, environment, soil and rock mechanics, materials, structures, transportation, water resources and other fields.
Architectural engineers deal with the technological aspects and multi-disciplinary approaches to planning, designing, constructing and operating buildings, such as analysis and integrated design of environmental systems (energy conservation, HVAC, plumbing, lighting, fire protection, acoustics), structural systems, behavior and properties of building components and materials.
Environmental engineers work with broad scientific topics like chemistry, biology, ecology, geology, hydraulics, hydrology, microbiology and mathematics to create solutions that will protect and also improve the health of living organisms, improve the quality of the environment and devise solutions for wastewater management, water and air pollution control, recycling, waste disposal and public health.
